What Goes Around

They say that history repeats itself. And I find that particularly fitting analogy since when you look at the macro level you can see many instances of this appearing to hold true. But that is it. Most of the time I feel we fail to look at the micro level, the personal level, which is equally as valid. We often repeat patterns, both good ones and bad, that cultivate our lives. Some of them enrich us while others, to quote my grandmother, “come around and bite you in the pants.” As long as it really is just in the pants I guess we can mostly lively with that. Though I suspect that she was trying to be tactful around my young ears.

I was recently given a copy of Alice Boyes book “The Healthy Mind Toolkit.” I wonder what the gift giver was trying to tell me. To be fair, they knew exactly what they were giving me, it is a topic I am immensely interested in and found the book to be a fantastic fast read.

It offers “simple strategies to get out of your own way and enjoy your life.” As I said, history repeats itself, both on the world moving level and the personal one.

As I said it was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the time spent reading. Is it a self help book? Yes and no, more of a commonsense book which I find are the best kind, for those of us who need that sort of thing it can work wonders. Sometimes I get so busy that a little kick in the head is what I need to get back on track. I have ironed out most of the big mistakes that kept repeating themselves and now I only need to focus on the smaller ones.

What goes around comes around, but when you get off the carousel you only need to move forward in the right direction.

Hi, my name is Amber. During the day I am a data analyst for an insurance company at night I am a recreational writer. You've found my blog. How nice. I don't have a specific topic that I write about. I am not a full time foodie, adventure traveler, or fashionista, though I have been known as anyone of those at various points in my life. My writings tend to slant toward geekdom and fan culture I've enjoyed throughout the years.
